A Morning in Alba, Among Scents and Colors 🌿✨

This morning, during breakfast, I had one of those sudden ideas that just pop into your head: “Why don’t we go to Milan by train? Ale always asks us to take him on a train ride, he’d be so happy!”

Said and… almost done. I grabbed my phone, checked the timetable, but the first available train was only at noon. Too late to turn the day into a little adventure.

My husband, who has very little patience for these things, immediately turned down the idea of driving to Milan. But then, in a flash, he came up with the perfect alternative: “Let’s go to Alba!”

And so we found ourselves in this wonderful little town in Piedmont, which never fails to surprise me. Alba is a jewel of the Langhe, with its cobblestone streets, elegant buildings, and an atmosphere that is both lively and intimate. Walking through its streets means breathing in history, culture, and irresistible aromas: from pastry shops baking hazelnut cakes (and yes, I even found it in a gluten free version—absolutely delicious!), to little shops selling truffles, all the way to wine bars where every glass tells the story of vineyards and rolling hills.

Piazza Duomo, with its imposing cathedral, is the beating heart of the city. Around it, boutiques and cafés invite you to stop, slow down, and simply watch life go by. That’s Alba: welcoming, elegant but unpretentious, able to gift you with simple yet genuine emotions.

No matter how many times I’ve been there, every time I return, Alba reminds me that beauty isn’t only found in big trips or faraway destinations, but also in these small, spontaneous getaways—born from a family breakfast and turned into a memory we’ll carry with us.
