Il rumore dei silenzi

Odio i silenzi.

The Noise of Silence

I hate silence.
Not the kind that brings peace, the kind that lets you breathe. I hate the silence that comes when words are needed most. Unspoken emotions. Sentences left unfinished. People who choose to disappear instead of finding the courage to speak.
We have an incredible gift: the ability to communicate. The chance to say, “You hurt me,” “I don’t agree,” “I’m afraid,” “I’m sorry.” Why waste it?
The older I get, the more I realize how many people prefer silence over confrontation. They avoid difficult conversations, run away from problems, and let time do the job that words were meant to do.
So I wonder: have we become capable of talking only about small talk? The weather, vacations, TV shows. But when it’s time to express what we truly feel, to give voice to our emotions, our desires, our fears, or our disappointments… suddenly, silence becomes the language we speak most fluently.
I still believe that communication is an act of respect. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it hurts. Because a truth spoken with sincerity leaves room for understanding. Silence, on the other hand, leaves room only for assumptions.
And sometimes, assumptions hurt far more than the truth.
Perhaps words are the greatest gift we’ve been given. And maybe that’s exactly why it hurts me so much to see how often we choose not to use them.
Sometimes I even find myself thinking that if animals had been given the gift of speech, they might have made better use of it than we do.
