A manual for surviving adult life.
If life were a game of chess, I’d probably be the one moving the pieces without really knowing the rules.
I think about the next move, then change my mind. I make a decision and five minutes later I wonder if it was the right one. Sometimes I think I have everything under control and, right on cue, something unexpected comes along to remind me that I really don’t.
Some days I feel like the queen: I can do everything, juggle a thousand things at once and almost feel invincible.
And then there are those days when I’m just a pawn. One step forward, two steps back, simply trying to make it to the end of the day.
There are people who are my rooks: my safe places, the ones I know I can count on.
And then there are the knights. The ones who come from completely unexpected directions and suddenly change the whole game.
The king, though, is something I think I’ve only understood as I’ve grown older: it’s my peace of mind. And maybe that’s exactly what I should learn to protect the most.
Because in the end, life isn’t a game you have to win.
It’s a game you have to play.
With a few wrong moves, a little luck, plenty of “why did I even do this?” moments and, hopefully, without completely losing your mind.
Because honestly, just finding my keys is already challenging enough. ♟️
