Scroll down for the English version⬇️

I Don’t Have to Explain Myself to Everyone

For years, I thought I had to explain myself to be understood. All the time.
Why I said no, why I said yes, why I was in a bad mood, and even why I wanted to be left alone. Honestly, the only thing missing from my life was a press conference with a Q&A session.
Then I realised something: you can’t please everyone, and you certainly can’t spend your whole life trying to convince people that you’re a good person.
Because, let’s be honest, we’re not the customer service department of our own existence.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that saying no doesn’t require a 20-page essay, changing your mind isn’t a crime, and choosing yourself sometimes doesn’t make you selfish. It simply means you exist, too.
I’ve stopped trying to be understood by people who have already decided not to understand me. I’ve stopped searching for the perfect words for people who only listen so they can reply. And I’ve stopped replaying conversations in my head for hours, imagining all the clever things I could have said… three hours too late, obviously.
Of course, I haven’t reached the Zen level of someone who genuinely doesn’t care. Let’s just say I’m still updating my system, with a few bugs left to fix.
But I’m learning that not everything deserves an explanation, not everyone deserves unlimited access to my thoughts, and not every misunderstanding is a problem I need to solve.
The people who truly care about me won’t always agree with me, but they’ll try to understand me. Everyone else is free to have their own opinion. Luckily, I don’t have to approve it.
In the end, I don’t want to become someone who never listens to anyone. I just want to stop listening to everyone except myself.
Because I don’t have to convince the world to understand me. I just have to stop losing myself trying to be understood.
And if that means being a little less available for explanations and a little more available for life, I’d say that’s progress.
With love, but no further explanation.
